Modern Foreign Languages

In Modern Foreign Languages we encourage and enable students to communicate effectively, use language for a real purpose and aim to widen opportunities for their future careers.

Students are guided progressively in the skill of attentive listening, to pay attention to written work, to speak and repeat accurately using phrases and sentences and to read with understanding and gist. We teach French and Spanish at KS3 and KS4.

Classroom activities include pair work and cooperative group work. We promote independent learning using dictionaries, ICT and homework. The use of various interactive resources brings the subject to life, sustains interest, motivates and offers pace and challenge. We have recently organised visits to France and Germany and a recent visit to Spain was a huge success.

Key Stage 3

In September 2007 we introduced Spanish to our already well-established French courses. Most students will study one of these languages in Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 4

Updated courses have been implemented in French and Spanish aimed at the ability of the students. All GCSE courses lead to a qualification with the AQA examinations board. Most Modern Foreign Language students at Key Stage 4 achieve passes of A*-C.
